With a Countach V12 mated to a TorqueFlite. It was called the Genesis.

Still weighed less than an Aventador...

For some reason, it immediately made me think of the Olds Silhouette, mostly because of the general shape, I guess.

Yup, Lamborghini would never actually make a production minivan,  that'd be like them making a production suv.  Oh wait..

It’s definitely reminiscent of the GM  dust buster vans.

Crazy concept. What an inefficient seating arrangement and to only get 5 bodies in the beast is laughable. I get that it’s only a concept but seriously, this was 1988 and Chrysler must have had a better option than a 3 speed torque flight, show me their competition to the 700R4 or 2004R.

Thanks for sharing.

Those wheels are dope as fuck.

Also, the front seat bottoms are part of the vehicle’s structure. Like, you sit  over the front suspension. Cocaine was used in the making of this vehicle, for sure.

There’s no doubt about that. I love the wheels and seating setup tho.

No, no, no.

I am old enough to remember it when it was introduced to the press. As far as I know this was a just a concept by Bertone and it was built by them - probably trying to attract the attention of Chrysler, which owned Lamborghini at the time.

I may be wrong, but have never read or heard that the Genesis had been commissioned by Lamborghini e i t h e r (or b y Chrysler, for that matter)

Bertone used to build fully-working dream/concept cars... unprompted (that’s how the Stratos Zero came to be, starting from a second hand Fulvia engine and gearbox). I suppose they simply looked for some cheap bits from a crashed Lamborghini and set out to work.

Yeah, it was a Bertone Concept. Not sure of Lamborghini’s actual involvement, but neat nonetheless.

Very neat indeed, fully agree.

I think the rationale behind the proposal went more or less like this: in 1987 Chrysler had shown the Portofino, an in-house design for Lamborghini. They were blah-blah-ing lots about its cab-forward concept so soon later Bertone must have thought “oh, you at Chrysler want cab-forward design, huh? I’ll give you cab-forward design and then some. And now that were are at it, a single-box shape, because Renault Espace* and your minivans and whatnot. Maybe you’ll be interested enough to work with us in a production version...”

(* ) N ote that the Espace was in fact developed by Matra for Chrysler Europe. When PSA bought w h o l e s a l e the sad remnants of Chrysler European operations they didn’t now what to do with the Espace project, so they let Matra keep it, who promptly offered the idea to Renault.

An interesting consequence of Matra’s involvement was that the original Espace had truly excellent road manners .

Why no innovation anymore?

This is like mega-ultra-super Previa, powered by Lamborghini.

Makes most mainstream cars look like dull cold oatmeal sort of cars.

A Lamborghini minivan with a Chrysler transmission - a nd Bob Lutz told Iacocca there wouldn’t be any synergy.

So, for RWD, Chrysler debuted the A500 in 1988... but that was the light duty transmission for use behind the 5.2 liter and smaller engines, 260 lb-ft tops. The Lamborghini LM002 engine that this thing used made 368 lb-ft.

I think they would’ve needed the A518, but that didn’t exist until 1990.

Don't forget you’re referencing publicly available transmissions, I imagine there'd be development stuff but maybe not.
